Multicultural Opportunities for SLHS Students
VAMOSS and Comm*Unity Sessions

SLHS undergraduate and graduate students have some exciting opportunities this fall. The Bilingualism and the Brain in Education and Language (BABEL) Lab and the Multicultural Bilingual Certificate Program, both directed by Dr. Genesis Arizmendi, are offering opportunities to learn and grow as members of our community.
Vamos A Mejorar Our Spanish in SLHS (VAMOSS) is SLHS' Spanish language practice club in the department and it is open to all students at all Spanish speaking levels! Meetings are held the last Monday of the month in SLHS 409 at 5PM.
Comm•Unity sessions are a new educational outreach initiative under the Multicultural Bilingual Certificate Program. These sessions serve as a platform for learning and accountability, where participants engage with real issues impacting our communities. These sessions will include presentations and workshops, driven by the needs and requests of SLHS students and faculty, with the goal of creating opportunities for engagement in meaningful discussions, exploring diverse perspectives, and deepening understanding of the unique cultural contexts that shape language, learning, and communication. These sessions are open to all students in the department, and are not a requirement for students pursuing the certificate.
