| Overview
The Department offers a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language
Pathology.
Clinical Audiology students must enroll in the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) program.
The Master of Science program in Speech-Language Pathology and the Clinical Doctoral program in Audiology at the University of Arizona are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
The faculty of the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is
committed to providing graduate education, both academic and clinical,
of the highest quality. They are also committed to increasing the
number of well-qualified speech-language pathologists whose backgrounds are underrepresented and
whose career interests include serving the communicatively disordered
in underserved populations of the state and nation.
Thirty-six semester hours of academic course work
are required for graduation. We do admit students who have received
their degree from another field of study, but 24 semester hours
in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences background coursework plus 6 hours
in biological or physical sciences, 6 hours in behavioral and social
sciences and 3 hours in statistics are required before beginning
studies in the master's program.
The Department requires official transcripts, three
letters of recommendation and a completed departmental application
with personal statement. February 1st is our deadline for receipt
of all admission materials for the following Fall semester. The
Graduate College requires a $50.00 application fee with a completed
application and domicile affidavit form.
Applications are reviewed and rated by the faculty.
Your application will be evaluated on:
- Undergraduate grade point
average: the mean overall GPA of successful applicants (over
the past 5 years) was approximately 3.2, and 3.4 for courses
in the major.
- Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) scores: the sum of the verbal and quantitative scores has
averaged 1120 over the past 5 years.
- Three letters of recommendation: all of which must be positive.
- Quality of your personal statement
relative to your major area of study.
If you believe that your credentials are competitive,
we encourage you to seek admission into our program.
