2008 ScholarshipS Announcements Susan and Thomas Cordell Scholarships * Applications are now being accepted for scholarships provided by Susan and Thomas Cordell. Mr. & Mrs. Cordell desire to support the education of UA Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences graduate students who are interested in providing counseling and (re)habilitative services to individuals with hearing loss. It is anticipated that for 2008- 2009, at least five scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded.
* Applications are now being accepted for the Cassandra Davis Memorial Scholarship. Cassandra Davis graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arizona in May of 2002 with a BS in Speech and Hearing Sciences and a BA in Spanish with an emphasis in linguistics. Her special interest area was bilingual communication disorders. She was about to begin graduate school when she died in a car accident in July of 2002. Cassandra’s family and friends have established this scholarship in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences to serve as a permanent memorial to her and to academic excellence.
* Applications are now being accepted for the Audrey L. Holland Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship was established in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences to support the education of UA Speech, Language, and Hearing graduate students who have research interests in adult language disorders. The number and amount shall vary.
* Applications are now being accepted for the Midtown Sertoma Club of Tucson Audiology Scholarship. This endowed scholarship was established in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences to support the education of UA Speech, Language, and Hearing audiology students enrolled in the Doctor of Audiology Program. It is anticipated that for 2008-2009, one scholarship will be awarded.
Community Talks The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona provides community lectures highlighting research and clinical aspects of speech, language and hearing to the Tucson area and surrounding communities. Each 45 minute talk gives the general public and targeted audiences a unique opportunity to meet and interact with some of the loading authorities in the area of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences presents a broad range of community talks designed to help educate the public.
